World music ensemble playing mix of traditionals (20%) and originals (80%) -fusion, gypsy, jazz, middle-eastern - for tribal dancers (based in American style tribal belly dance,) Our current lineup consists of a violin, guitarist/cornet, Oud & Banjar player, flutist/clarinet/penny whistle, doumbek player, doumbek player, Tupan/other percussion player, Guitarist part-time.
We seeks the following:
a) low end melodic player - bass (electric or upright,) cello or tuba
someone to bridge melody and drive rhythm
b) guitarist - acoustic primarily but also able with an electric, ability to improvise, familiar with a wide range of world beat styles.
c) accordionist - ability to improvise, Balkan and tango experience a plus, familiar with a wide range of world beat styles.
Players would be better off with some experience in odd time signatures (6, 7, 9) and some sort of folk music. Not necessary, but helpful. We play by ear so reading won't help much.
Dedicated weekly rehearsals. Periodic gigs. Not in it for the money. auditions open to all.
